Balayage Hair Color Technique – The Latest Trend

A Balayage hair treatment is the latest trend in hair color.

Balayage is one of the latest color trends that can achieve so many different effects when it comes to hair color. From a look that shows off soft, natural highlights or one that is strong – and maybe even punky – you can let everyone see your personality and really highlight your facial features. The Balayage hair color technique creates depth and dimension and is one of the most popular hair color treatments requested in salons today. So what exactly is a Balayage hair color treatment?

What is a Balayage Hair Color Treatment?

Balayage Hair Treatment, Cut N'Loose, Jensen Beach, FLBalayage (pronounced bah-lee-AHZGE) is a hair color technique that has been around since the 1980s. It’s a French word that means “to sweep.” When your colorist is applying the color, he or she is actually hand-painting color onto your hair in a sweeping motion. This type of motion allows your colorist to achieve a natural color pattern with the highlighted color applied on the mid-section to the ends of your hair. The color is also “swept” up to the roots in a soft, but dissipated manner, creating a darker root area.

Balayage hair color requires very little in the way of special care at home. Because of the way it is applied, your balayage hair treatment will grow out more naturally.  That means you won’t have that obvious line of regrowth and you can go longer between appointments. Just like any other hair color treatment, you should use a color-protecting shampoo and conditioner along with regular moisturizing treatments. You should also use heat protection when styling.
